Meeting Held Between the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba

On May 14, 2025, a working meeting took place at the “Atameken” National Chamber of Entrepreneurs between the leadership of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Oscar Santana Leon. The main purpose of the dialogue was to discuss prospects for business cooperation as well as the current status of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the chambers of the two countries.

The parties discussed possible avenues for deepening trade and economic ties, exchanged views on key issues of bilateral cooperation, and outlined steps to further develop intergovernmental dialogue in the field of business.

From the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, the meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Asan Zhakishev. He emphasized the Chamber’s interest in developing a partnership with Cuba: “The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan is consistently working to expand the geography of its international cooperation. We see significant potential in strengthening economic ties with Cuba. In 2024, the volume of bilateral trade amounted to USD 87.2 thousand, and in just the first two months of 2025, it has already reached USD 185 thousand. Kazakhstan imports cane sugar, cigars, and ethyl alcohol from Cuba, and there is potential to expand these areas,” said Mr. Zhakishev.

Mr. Oscar Santana Leon expressed his desire to intensify bilateral engagement, including through the organization of business trips for Cuban entrepreneurs to Kazakhstan and for representatives of the Kazakh business community to Cuba. He also confirmed Cuba’s readiness to implement joint projects, develop investment cooperation and tourism. Particular attention was given to the prospects of increasing imports from Kazakhstan, especially agricultural products such as wheat and vegetable oil
