The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan Holds Meeting with the Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Kazakhstan

On May 23, 2025, the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan (ICC) held a meeting with Mr. Antonelli De Riu, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the discussions, the parties reviewed the current state and future prospects of Kazakh-Italian trade and economic cooperation.

According to the results of 2024, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Italy amounted to USD 19.9 billion, which represents a 24% increase compared to 2023. Despite a 3.1% decline in foreign trade activity in the first quarter of 2025, both sides expressed interest in intensifying dialogue and strengthening business ties.

The ICC also expressed its commitment to further developing and expanding the potential for trade and economic cooperation with Italy. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of diversifying areas of engagement, which would add momentum to bilateral relations. In this context, the Kazakh side presented information on the country’s existing investment opportunities, highlighting the favorable conditions created for foreign investors. Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, Mr. Murat Karimsakov, provided more detailed information about the National Digital Investment Platform, its capabilities and outcomes, as well as the activities of the Investment Council as a key mechanism for supporting investment projects.

“Kazakhstan exports primarily crude oil to Italy, which accounts for 96.5% of total exports. The export structure also includes aluminum and agricultural products, particularly wheat. At the same time, Italy supplies Kazakhstan with processing equipment, pharmaceuticals, and metal products. These areas hold significant potential for expansion and technological cooperation,” Karimsakov noted.

During the meeting, the initiative to establish a Kazakhstan–Italy Business Council was also presented. Both sides expressed interest in giving this format a sustainable character and using it as a permanent platform for information exchange, promotion of joint projects, and expansion of business-to-business contacts.

The Italian side also extended official invitations to an event dedicated to Italy’s Republic Day, which will take place on June 2, 2025.

The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan reaffirmed its readiness for open dialogue and enhanced cooperation with Italian businesses, offering personalized support for investment projects, including tax incentives, infrastructure assistance, and facilitation of negotiations with government agencies.
