The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan Discussed Prospects for Cooperation with the Embassy of Spain

On October 8, 2025, in Astana, Dana Kassymova, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, met with Mr. Borrellia, Trade and Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Spain in Kazakhstan.
The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and focused on discussing the current state and future prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Spain. Both sides noted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and expressed confidence that strengthening business contacts would further promote partnership between the two countries.
Spain has long been one of Kazakhstan’s key partners within the European Union. The relations between the two countries are based on nearly three decades of mutual respect, stable political dialogue, and expanding economic cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Kazakhstan and Spain have built a solid framework of collaboration both bilaterally and within the “Kazakhstan–EU” dialogue.
In this context, particular importance is attached to existing bilateral mechanisms, such as the Kazakhstan–Spain Parliamentary Friendship Group, the Intergovernmental Kazakhstan–Spain Commission on Cooperation in Economy and Industry, and the Kazakhstan–Spain Business Council. The most recent session of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council took place in March 2025 in Madrid, marking an important milestone in strengthening economic dialogue.
Special attention during the meeting was given to issues of trade and investment. Between January and July 2025, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Spain amounted to USD 1.3 billion, representing an 11.7% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Kazakhstan’s exports reached USD 982.5 million, with about 97% accounted for by oil, as well as processed products such as ferroalloys, textiles, and essential oils. Imports from Spain totaled USD 293.3 million, with growth observed in the supply of aircraft, perfumes, tires, and metallurgical equipment.
Investment cooperation and the participation of Spanish businesses in Kazakhstan’s economy remain an important component of the partnership. Today, there are 63 companies with Spanish capital registered in Kazakhstan, including 33 joint ventures. Among them are such well-known brands as Airbus Defense & Space, Maxam, Glovo, Roca, Inditex, Mango, Pronovias, and Técnicas Reunidas. Their activities contribute to the transfer of advanced technologies, the implementation of international quality standards, and the strengthening of mutual trust between the business communities of both countries.
Summing up the meeting, Dana Kassymova emphasized the importance of cooperation with Spain in the Chamber’s international agenda: “Spain is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners within the European Union. Our relations are based on nearly three decades of mutual respect, a stable political dialogue, and expanding economic cooperation. Today, Kazakhstan and Spain have built a strong architecture of partnership both bilaterally and within the ‘Kazakhstan–EU’ dialogue,” she noted.
In conclusion, both sides confirmed their commitment to continuing dialogue and developing new joint initiatives. It was noted that further cooperation in logistics, transport, trade, and innovation will contribute to diversifying economic ties and strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Spain.
