On 30 May 2025, a working meeting of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan with a delegation from Turkmenistan was held in Astana. The event was attended by representatives of government agencies and business circles of Turkmenistan. The Kazakh side was represented by Diana Zhakutova, Director of the MIC International Cooperation Department, and Aidar Kazybaev, Co-Chairman of the Kazakhstan-Turkmen Business Council.
During the meeting Diana Zhakutova welcomed the Turkmen delegation and familiarised the participants with the activities of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs ‘Atameken’ and the Foreign Trade Chamber of Kazakhstan. She paid special attention to the opportunities offered by the interactive investment map of Kazakhstan for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Aidar Kazybaev noted that this year it is planned to launch a direct flight between Ashgabat and Almaty, as well as intensification of work to improve the border road infrastructure in Mangistau region. According to him, these measures will significantly increase the volume of bilateral trade turnover.
- In the near future, we will organise an online meeting with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan to form a pool of exporters from both sides. This will allow us to double the volume of trade turnover in the short term and reach the mark of 1 billion US dollars,’ Aidar Kazybaev stressed.
At the end of 2024 trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan totalled about 500 million U.S. dollars.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to preparations for the meeting of the Kazakhstan-Turkmen Business Council, which is scheduled for 3 September 2025. As part of the event, the Foreign Trade Chamber intends to present a new electronic trading platform, providing online access of Kazakh producers to the market of Turkmenistan.
It was also noted during the conversation that a meeting of the Business Council ‘China - Central Asia’ will be held in Astana on 17 June 2025, within the framework of which a delegation from Turkmenistan headed by the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan is expected to visit the country.
