On October 6, 2025, the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan held a meeting in Astana with a Romanian delegation led by Mihai Daraban, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania. The delegation also included Madălina Lupu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and Mrs. Martin, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Romania. It was noted that the bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached about USD 3 billion, representing a 2 percent increase compared to 2023 (USD 2.87 billion).

In the first eight months of 2025, the trade turnover amounted to USD 1.6 billion, with exports rising by 9 percent. Kazakhstan’s main exports to Romania include oil, uranium, gas, and coal, while imports are dominated by pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and electrical instruments.

There are currently 35 legal entities with Kazakh capital operating in Romania, and 39 Romanian companies working in Kazakhstan, reflecting the stable development of business relations and a high level of mutual trust between the two countries.

Special attention during the meeting was given to strengthening direct contacts between the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, as well as to the revival of the Kazakhstan–Romania Business Council. The parties also discussed prospects for holding joint business forums, B2B negotiations, and sectoral events aimed at expanding cooperation in the energy, transport-logistics, and industrial sectors.

Murat Karimsakov, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, stated: “Romania is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan in Southeastern Europe. The growth of bilateral trade and our active participation in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route open new opportunities for business and investment. It is important that we are strengthening direct ties between our chambers of entrepreneurs, creating practical mechanisms for cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises — the driving force of our economies. I am confident that the results of today’s meeting will form a solid foundation for new projects and for deepening mutual trust between our countries.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their mutual interest in further strengthening trade and economic cooperation and developing joint projects in energy, transport, and logistics
