VietJet Air Launches a New Hanoi–Almaty–Prague Route
On 10 October 2026, Almaty International Airport hosted a ceremony marking the launch of Vietnamese airline VietJet Air’s new Hanoi–Almaty–Prague route. The event was attended by Nguyen Thanh Le, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Kazakhstan; Ha Nang Viet, Chief Commercial Officer of VietJet Air; Galiya Tokseitova, Head of the Almaty Tourism Department; Serik Amirov, Special Representative of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan in ASEAN countries; Alexander Mikautadze, Vice President of Almaty International Airport; and other representatives.
Speakers noted that Kazakhstan effectively uses its geographical position and serves as an important bridge in developing new transport routes between Europe and Southeast Asia. Kazakhstan’s open skies regime, which permits the exercise of fifth-freedom traffic rights, provides further momentum for this development. It also creates additional opportunities for domestic airports to serve as international hubs for connecting flights between different regions of the world.
Background: VietJet Air is Vietnam’s first privately established airline. As part of its strategy, the company aims to become an international group with an extensive worldwide route network. Established in partnership with the Vietnamese side, VietJet Qazaqstan has been operating in Kazakhstan since 2025. It currently serves domestic routes in Kazakhstan, as well as Bishkek, Samarkand, Omsk and Novosibirsk.
VietJet Air plans to expand its flight network to other major European cities via the Republic of Kazakhstan in the near future. These plans will contribute to strengthening cooperation between countries, increasing tourism and business travel, and facilitating exchanges of experience across various sectors.
