On July 22, 2025, in Astana, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan Murat Karimsakov met with a delegation from China’s Hainan Province, led by Mr. Li Goliang, Vice Chairman of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

The parties discussed prospects for deepening trade and economic cooperation, with a particular focus on the development of special (free) economic zones, logistics, industrial cooperation, and institutional interaction.

During the meeting, representatives of the Chamber noted the high potential of Hainan Province as an international transport and investment hub and expressed interest in creating a joint platform for product promotion and the expansion of direct business contacts. The Chinese side proposed considering the opening of a representative office of the Chamber in Hainan, as well as organizing a business mission of Kazakhstani companies to the province.

Special attention was paid to the initiative of establishing a multimodal corridor that could connect Central Asia, Hainan, and Southeast Asia, along with exchanging experience in managing special economic zones, simplifying customs procedures, and introducing preferential regimes.

“Hainan, as China’s southern maritime gateway, and Kazakhstan, as a Eurasian land hub, can jointly develop a multimodal corridor linking Central Asia, China, and Southeast Asia. This route holds great promise for both transit and trade in high value-added goods,” emphasized Murat Karimsakov during the meeting.

For his part, Mr. Li Goliang stated: “Kazakhstan plays an important role in regional cooperation as the economic center of Central Asia. We are especially interested in your experience in developing special economic zones. We hope this visit will lay the foundation for long-term cooperation between Hainan and Kazakhstan focused on mutual benefit and sustainable development.”

The parties also proposed to establish a mechanism for regular exchanges between relevant government bodies and organizations, maintain continuous dialogue, share experience in the formulation and implementation of economic policies, and actively explore new formats of cooperation in trade, investment, and human capital development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their commitment to continuing the dialogue and proceeding with the implementation of concrete projects. This will serve as an important step toward strengthening business ties and practical cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.
