Kazakhstan and Indonesia Discuss Expansion of Trade and Economic Cooperation
On September 3, 2026, a meeting was held in Astana at the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken” between Murat Karimsakov, Chairman of the Board of The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, and a delegation representing the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Puti Retno Ali, KADIN Vice Chair for Export Competitiveness.
The meeting was intended to provide an opportunity to exchange views on the development of trade and economic relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral trade, promoting exports and market access, identifying opportunities for cooperation between enterprises, and exploring potential partnerships between Indonesian and Kazakh companies.
The parties noted the longstanding and friendly nature of relations between the two countries, which established diplomatic relations in 1993. In 2025, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Indonesia amounted to USD 244.6 million. Kazakhstan’s exports primarily consist of ferroalloys and sulfur, while imports from Indonesia include electronics, specialized machinery, footwear, and palm oil.
The participants discussed prospects for increasing bilateral trade, diversifying exports and imports, and developing direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries. Particular attention was paid to geographical distance and high transport and logistics costs, which remain constraining factors in the development of trade. At the same time, the parties expressed their readiness to jointly seek effective ways to overcome the existing barriers.
One of the key topics was the possible signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken” and KADIN. The document is expected to provide a practical foundation for organizing joint business missions, exchanging commercial information, establishing direct contacts between entrepreneurs, and identifying promising partners. The parties also discussed the possible establishment of the Kazakhstan–Indonesia Business Council as a platform for strengthening direct interaction between entrepreneurs of the two countries and implementing joint initiatives.
Murat Karimsakov briefed the Indonesian delegation on the activities of the National Chamber, which brings together more than two million business entities across the country. The Chamber’s system includes 20 regional chambers and a network of more than 180 business support centers, enabling it to facilitate investment projects and provide practical assistance to Kazakh and foreign companies.
The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken”, promotes foreign economic relations and supports exports. The Chamber assists foreign partners and investors in identifying reliable counterparties, organizes trade missions and delegations, facilitates visits to Kazakhstan, provides platforms for direct negotiations, offers advisory support on tax, customs, and legal matters, and assists with opening representative offices and branches.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing business contacts, promoting joint initiatives, and creating new opportunities for cooperation between companies from Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
