On July 17, 2025, the SCO Business Forum titled “Promoting the Shanghai Spirit: Business in Action” was held in Beijing, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) with the participation of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC).
The event gathered representatives from SCO member states, observer countries, and dialogue partners. Opening remarks were delivered by Gao Yunlong, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the SCO; Sergey Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation; Sergey Katyrin, Head of the Russian national part of the SCO Business Council and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia; Temir Sariyev, Head of the Kyrgyz national part of the SCO Business Council and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan; Xi Guohua, Chairman of the Board of CITIC; and Liu Jun, President of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). The plenary session was moderated by Ren Hongbin, Head of the Chinese national part of the SCO Business Council and Chairman of CCPIT.
The forum served as a vital platform to discuss prospects for economic cooperation in areas such as the green energy transition, sustainable supply chains, and deeper connectivity across the Eurasian region.
The Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan was represented at the forum by Chairman of the Board Murat Karimsakov. During the working sessions, he held meetings with representatives of business communities from SCO countries and discussed ways to strengthen trade and investment partnerships, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts toward a sustainable economy.
“In the current context of global market volatility, the SCO plays a crucial role as a platform for dialogue and economic trust. Kazakhstan consistently advocates for the strengthening of industrial cooperation, the development of green energy, and digital solutions. Forums like today’s event allow businesses to form real alliances and joint projects,” noted Murat Karimsakov.
Special attention at the forum was given to key topics raised during the speeches, including:
– Enhancing the interconnected early warning and emergency response mechanism, including the creation of a regional risk alert system and institutionalization of the successful “green corridor” experience;
– Accelerating the dual transition to digitalization and greening of the economy;
– Optimizing the business environment for investment and innovation, including the development of a transnational industrial ecosystem, protection of intellectual property, and expansion of the “SCO e-commerce + industrial internet” platform.
The forum program featured a plenary opening ceremony, thematic sessions, and B2B meetings. Thematic emphasis was placed on sustainable development, innovations in energy, and the creation of new logistics corridors. Initiatives were presented to launch joint clusters in the areas of industry, infrastructure, and digital trade.
As part of the forum, CCPIT also presented the “SCO Supply Chain Development Report,” which outlines key trends and recommendations for strengthening industrial interconnectivity among regional states.
The participation of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan at the event allowed for high-level articulation of national business priorities, advancement of Kazakhstani companies’ interests, and reinforcement of ties with key economic partners in the region.
The forum continued a series of SCO events aimed at fostering sustainable and inclusive economic cooperation among member countries. Kazakhstan reaffirms its commitment to deeper collaboration within the SCO framework and remains open to new forms of business partnership.
